Interior

The interior of the MasterBox 5 is much more interesting, although the lack of roof fan mounts does limit your options somewhat when it comes to expanding the cooling possibilities. That said, the front two 120mm fan mounts, which can also house two 140mm fans, can support a 240mm or 280mm radiator, with an optional front bracket that will be available at a later date set to provide support for 360mm radiators too.


This means that the case could be a home to a half-decent water-cooling system, although admittedly there is just one exhaust fan, which isn't ideal. There's plenty of space potentially available too, as the two-bay, tool-free 3.5in cage in the base can be moved back or removed entirely, allowing for various thicknesses of radiator to be used.


There's only one dedicated SSD mount as standard (you can use either of the two 3.5in bays too though), but it can be positioned in five different locations, including three slots next to the motherboard tray at the front of the case, behind the motherboard tray and on top of the hard disk cage. The slots next to the motherboard tray would also make an ideal home for a reservoir.


The PSU cover is a welcome addition and unlike some of Corsair's recent efforts, it's easy to remove to install the PSU too and does a good job of covering up unsightly cables. As well as the bottom dust filter, the front section mesh can also be removed to allow for easy cleaning, as well as to get at the front fan mounts.


There's a good deal of space behind the motherboard tray for cable routing, although we weren't able to fully utilise it with cable ties as our sample appeared to be missing the accessory box, so sorry if things are a little messy.
